Pierre Boulez’s live, 2003 Tokyo Schoenberg and Wagner concert released on Deutsche Grammophon
A concert conducted by Pierre Boulez in Suntory Hall, Tokyo in
the presence of the Japanese Emperor in 2003 is to be released by Deutsche Grammophon.
The recording features performances of Schoenberg’s Pelleas and Melisande and the Prelude to Act I of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, with Boulez conducting the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.
Founded by Claudio Abbado to provide young musicians with the opportunity to work with established conductors and soloists, the orchestra, with whom Boulez has toured four times, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2011.
