The television broadcasts made
by the idiosyncratic and iconic pianist Glenn Gould for the Canadian Broadcasting Company between 1954 and 1977 are to be released in a mid-price DVD box set by Sony Classical.

The 10-disc set will feature more than 19 hours of TV specials, concert performances, interviews and discussions, many of which have not been seen since they were first broadcast. All of the material is being presented unedited and uncut, and includes the now legendary three-hour conversation between Gould and interviewer Humphrey Burton.

The release also includes previously unseen performances by Gould of works by Scriabin, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Walton, Hindemith, Bartók, Copland, Poulenc and Prokofiev.

2012 will see both the 80th anniversary of Gould’s birth and the 30th year since his death just days after his 50th birthday in 1982.

Glenn Gould on Television – The Complete CBC Broadcasts 1954-1977 is scheduled for release in February.
