Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky has renewed his exclusive contract with Virgin Classics.

The French-born singer made his first recording for Virgin Classics – Alessandro Scarlatti’s Sedecia, Re di Gerusalemme at the age of 20 in 1999. He released his debut solo recital for the label, Un concert pour Mazarin, accompanied by Ensemble La Fenice conducted by Jean Tubéry, in 2004. He has made 20 recordings for Virgin, three of which have achieved Gold Disc status.

A former Echo-Klassik Male Singer of the Year, he was recently named Victoires de la Musique’s Artist of the Year for the second time, and has acquired a large and loyal audience. Tribute to Carestini has sold more than 90,000 copies and took the CD of the Year Award at both the 2008 Victoires de la Musique and the 2009 Midem Classical Awards. His album of Vivaldi opera arias, Heroes, also picked up a brace of awards and has sold more than 120,000 units. And on YouTube, his performance of Vivaldi’s ‘Vedro con mio diletto’ has received more than 2.1 million viewings.

Forthcoming projects on Virgin Classics include a disc of duos with Max Emmanuel Cencic under the baton of William Christie, and two important collaborations: Fauré’s Requiem with the Orchestre de Paris and Paavo Järvi, and a South American music recording project with Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata.
