Marc-André Hamelin records Liszt, Reger and Richard Strauss for Hyperion
Marc-André Hamelin is to release two new recordings – an all-Liszt recital with the B minor Piano Sonata as its centerpiece, and a coupling of Reger and Richard Strauss – for Hyperion.
The Canadian pianist’s third Liszt program for the label also includes the lesser-known Fantasy and Fugue on B-A-C-H, the light-hearted Venezia e Napoli, and the intensely spiritual Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude.
And appearing as Volume 55 in Hyperion’s long-running Romantic Piano Concerto series, is a coupling of Reger’s formidable Op. 114 Concerto in F minor with the early Burleske in D minor by Richard Strauss. Orchestral accompaniment
is provided by the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, conducted by Ilan Volkov.
Both discs will be released in April.
