Joyce DiDonato renews exclusive recording contract with Virgin Classics
Joyce DiDonato has renewed her exclusive long-term recording contract with Virgin Classics.
The American mezzo-soprano first signed to Virgin in June 2007 and has since recorded seven CDs and a DVD for the label. Her most recent release, Diva, Divo, her third solo disc on Virgin, was hailed by George Loomis for The Classical Review as “a joy… this disc documents a major artist at the height of her powers and can hardly be recommended too warmly.”
She was also one of the featured soloists in Jake Heggie’s song compendium Passing By, which was one of The Classical Review‘s
10 Best Recordings of 2010.
Earlier this month, DiDonato made her main Carnegie Hall debut and is soon to make two appearances at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and sing in four leading European opera houses. A European tour of Handel’s Ariodante, with DiDonato in the title role accompanied by Il Complesso Barocco conducted by Alan Curtis, starts on May 20 in Baden-Baden, Germany, with stops in Paris, France and London’s Barbican Centre.
In 2010, DiDonato was voted Artist of the Year by a leading
British music magazine and Best Singer of the Year by the German music industry.
