Harpsichordist Andreas Staier
has recorded CPE Bach’s Sei
concerti per il cembalo concertato
for Harmonia Mundi.

The six works were composed during a period of intensive productivity between 1770 and
1772, shortly after Bach arrived in Hamburg. In his note for the recording, Andreas Staier explains the attraction of a set whose incredible diversity is framed and contained by a surprising unity of attitude and expression, one “whose arrangement is not linear, but concentric. One has the impression that Bach wanted to set a series of musical riddles which constantly force the audience to take a critical distance from its own listening.”

Staier is accompanied by the Freiburger Barockorchester, conducted
by Petra Müllejans.

The double-disc Sei concerti per il cembalo concertato will be released at a special price in the United States on April 12.
