Sony Classical adds soprano Nino Machaidze to its artist roster
Georgian soprano Nino Machaidze has become the latest young artist
to sign to Sony Classical as the
label continues to strengthen its artist roster.
Born in Tbilisi in 1983, Machaidze won the Leyla Gencer Vocal Competion in 2006 and made her
La Scala main house debut the following year, sining Marie in Donizetti’s La fille du regiment. She has since sung in Salzburg, London, Los Angeles (in Il turco in Italia) and New York (as Gilda in Rigoletto).
She made her recording debut for Deutsche Grammophon on a 2009 DVD singing Juliette alongside Rolando Villazón’s Roméo in Gounod’s re-telling of Shakespeare first seen at the Salzburg Festival in 2008. She also appears with Plácido Domingo and Angela Gheorghiu in DG’s new recording of Giordano’s Fedora.
The Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Communale di Bologna, conducted by Michele Mariotti, will accompany Machaidze on her first recording for Sony, a collection of bel canto arias which is scheduled for release in the Spring.
