Garrick Ohlsson completes Beethoven sonata cycle for Bridge Records
Pianist Garrick Ohlsson is to complete his survey of Beethoven’s 32 sonatas for solo piano for Bridge Records with a ninth and final volume in the series.
The two-disc set, which concludes a project that has occupied the New York-born pianist for more than a decade, will include Sonatas Five, Six and Seven (Op.10 Nos.1-3); the 17th and 18th Sonatas (Op.31 Nos. 2 and 3); Sonatas 19 and 20 (Op.49 Nos. 1 and 2); and Sonata No.22 (Op.54).
In 2008, Volume 3 in the series won Ohlsson a Grammy Award in the Best Instrumental Performance category.
Volume 9 of the Complete Beethoven Sonatas is released this month.
