Decca to release New Year’s Concert 2011 in Vienna, conducted by Franz Welser-Möst
The 2011 New Year’s Day concert by the Wiener Philharmoniker from the Musikverein in Vienna will be released by Decca.
Conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, Music Director of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, the traditional annual event will be compered by veteran American broadcaster and recipient of seven Emmy Awards, Paula Zahn, stepping in at short notice for an indisposed Julie Andrews.
The concert – which will feature Strauss favorites On the Beautiful Blue Danube, Radetsky March and six premieres for the event, will be broadcast live to a global radio and television audience of over one billion listeners and viewers in 72 countries, airing in the United States at 8 p.m. ET on PBS.
An audio recording will be released on CD by Decca shortly after
the concert.
