Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky champions Caldara’s castrato arias for Virgin Classics
Philippe Jaroussky is to resume
his exploration of long-forgotten arias for high male voice with a collection of pieces by Antonio Caldara on his eighth solo album
for Virgin Classics.
Caldara in Vienna will include several first recordings of music by the contemporary of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, with the French countertenor accompanied by Concerto Köln and conductor Emmanuelle Haïm (who previously collaborated with Jaroussky on 2007′s Carestini: The Story of a Castrato).
Already available in the UK, the disc will be released in two formats
– a standard jewel-box version and a limited deluxe hardback book edition – in the US on December 7.
