Telarc release for Jennifer Higdon’s concerto for violin and chorus
Jennifer Higdon’s The Singing Rooms is to be released by Telarc in performances by violinist Jennifer Koh and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by Robert Spano.
The recording reunites Higdon with Koh – for whom she had previously written the sonata with piano, String Poetic – and Spano, who has previously recorded her Concerto for Orchestra with the Atlanta Symphony for Telarc. The Singing Rooms is Higdon’s first work to feature both chorus and orchestra, and sets texts by the poet and academic Jeanne Minahan.
The work is coupled with two works: Alvin Singleton’s PraiseMaker, originally commissioned by the Cincinnati May Festival to mark its 125th anniversary in 1998, and Scriabin’s Le Poème l’extase.
