Maxim Rysanov announces debut recording for BIS

July 28, 2010

The young Ukrainian-born viola player Maxim Rysanov is to record three of Bach’s Cello Suites for his debut release on the Swedish label BIS Records.

A former BBC New Generation artist and prizewinner of the Geneva International Music Competition and Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, Rysanov has previous released four recordings on the Avie, Onyx, Quartz and Decca labels. His BIS debut – “the first hopefully of many recordings” – features transcriptions of the First, Fourth and Fifth of Bach’s seminal suites by Simon Rowland-Jones.

The disc will be released on September 1, with Rysanov’s own arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations to follow in early 2011.
