JoAnn Falletta releases second Dohnányi volume on Naxos
Conductor JoAnn Falletta returns to the music of Ernő von Dohnányi with a recording of three orchestral works with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra for Naxos.
It will be the second volume Falletta has devoted to the Hungarian exile (grandfather of Christoph and more familiarly known as Ernst) who spent his later years teaching in Tallahassee, Florida. In 2008 she released a well-received coupling of the Violin Concertos with Michael Ludwig and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
The popular Variations on a Nursery Song – the piano concerto based on the nursery rhyme Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, with Eldar Nebolsin as soloist – will be heard alongside the less familiar and, at 30 minutes, substantial Suite in F sharp minor, and Symphonic Minutes. Performances were recored in the Buffalo Philharmonic’s Kleinhans Music Hall home in October/November 2008 and February 2009.
