EMI reissues focus on 20th-century masterworks

July 26, 2010

Historic recordings from EMI’s back catalogue have been reissued on five new double-disc volumes in the label’s 20th Century Classics series.

The new issues in the series – which now totals 35 volumes in all and blends familiar repertoire with less well-known works – have a European focus, with separate sets featuring music by Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams from England, Hungarian-born György Ligeti, Austria’s Franz Schreker, and Aram Khachaturian from Georgia.

Featured artists include violinists David Ositrakh and Sarah Chang; baritones Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Thomas Hampson, mezzo Janet Baker, conductors André Previn, Adrian Boult and Bernard Haitink, and the Artemis Quartet.
