Edward Higginbottom to launch new record label
Conductor Edward Higginbottom and the Choir of New College, Oxford are to launch their own record label, Novum, in October.
With a history dating back to the late 14th century, the New College Choir has previously recorded more than 70 albums for a number of labels, including Erato, Naxos, Decca, the now defunct Collins Classics, and, more recently, New Records. The first release on its own label will be Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610, marking the 400th anniversary of the publication of the work in Venice. The choir will be joined on the recording by Oxford period-instrument neighbours Charivari Agréable. Novum’s inaugural disc will be launched at a gala concert in London on October 6.
A forthcoming release will feature the Choir accompanied by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem.
