July 02, 2010

The debut recording by fast-rising conductor Alondra de la Parra is to feature music from her native Mexico in recognition of the country’s current bicentennial celebrations.

Mi Alma Mexicana (‘My Mexican Soul’) will be a two-disc set and includes music by 13 Mexican composers, the earliest work, dating from 1884, Juventino Rosas’s Sobre las Olas, the most recent, Eugenio Toussaint’s Concierto para Piano, from 2006. De la Parra will conduct the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, the orchestra she created in 2004 and which features musicians from more than 20 countries. Soloists include violinist Daniel Andai, guitarist Pablo Sáinz-Villegas and pianist Alex Brown.

Mi Alma Mexicana will be released worldwide on August 2 and in the United States on August 3, on Sony Masterworks.
