Rafał Blechacz

Rafał Blechacz is the recipient of the 2014 Gilmore Artist Award, one of classical music’s most prestigious prizes.

The Polish pianist, 28, is already internationally renown for his performances of Chopin, Debussy and Szymanowski. Blechacz is the first Polish winner of the Gilmore since Piotr Anderszewski in 2002. Other winners include Kirill Gerstein, Ingrid Fliter, Leif Ove Andsnes, Ralf Gothoni and David Owen Norris.

Awarded every four years, the $300,000 Gilmore Award is given to an exceptional artist who has the potential to sustain a major concert career.

Rafał Blechacz’s first performance as a Gilmore Artist will be given 5:30 p.m. EST tonight during a special, live-streamed event presented by WQXR at the Greene Space in New York City. The event will also be available on thegilmore.org.
